Lucerne Hay

Lucerne Hay

We carry a wide variety of lucerne hay, which is suitable for pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, and horses. For rabbits over 6 months old, it’s best to offer lucerne in limited amounts, as its high calcium and protein content can contribute to urinary problems. However, it makes a great occasional treat. Lucerne is perfectly fine for young rabbits under 6 months. Any unused lucerne can also be added to your garden as a natural, nitrogen-rich fertiliser.

Cubes & Pellets: These provide lucerne in a compact, chewable format. Their firm texture encourages gnawing, promoting good dental health by helping to wear down constantly growing rabbit teeth. Many rabbits and guinea pigs enjoy them as treats. Lucerne pellets also double as an effective cat litter, offering natural odour control thanks to the chlorophyll.

Lucerne Chaff: This is finely chopped lucerne hay, typically cut into 2 cm pieces. It’s commonly used as a high-fibre, protein-rich feed for horses and rabbits. Horse owners often mix it with grain to slow rapid eating and aid digestion.

Lucerne Bales: These are a cost-effective bulk option for feeding horses or large numbers of small animals like rabbits and guinea pigs. They can also be repurposed in the garden as mulch or fertiliser. A great tip is to reuse the leftover lucerne from your rabbit’s enclosure in your garden beds.
